You're right, my war was paying almost 3k per skill before the update, but lets just change it back...
It may be more expensive in the beginning, but it's a lot cheaper in the long run.

And kemydes, you don't need ALL skills of a class to make a decent pvp build.
eg: Why would a warrior need all ele skills when all they ever use in pvp is gale and shock. W/ranger only needs tiger's fury, some spirits, charm animal. Etc.

I was in the "old system". It is not cheaper. It seemed cheaper at 1st but with no "cap" in gets expensive fast. Trust me your getting a bargin once it hits 1k per skill in the current system.

How about, combining the old and new system together?

Skill costs 10 gold, then 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 ... 1,000

Then stays at 1,000

Then everyone will be happy. Yes?

Well I earned most of the skills I have on my characters through missions/quests that give them. However when going for elites, it did not take long before caps are costing me 1k per cap sig. Which if I come across a boss and use it, I won't cap a skill unless its an elite because wow its just not worth it. I enjoyed the old system when paying for caps and such were not so expensive. And I never noticed a drop in merchant pricing since the price for skills went up.

My only problem with the new skill costs is that a Signet of Capture costs as much as a normal skill, which is rediculous. I should be rewarded for getting a skill the hard way by paying less gold.

It is compared to what it used to cost.

you dont have to get it while the boss is using the skill (ever tried to get the skill and the boss wouldnt use the one you wanted?)

now you just kill him and choose your skill and that is it.

BFD and a bargain

The old system for skills is cheaper because: you don't need to change profs and unlock every skill. I'm not trying to unlock em all. I'm just trying to get skills that are useful to me. I don't play to unlock (well, maybe with this one i am, just for a few necro elites), but to have fun. I currently have just over 2k. In the old system i NEVER even got past 600 a skill so...yeah...the old cap sigs used to be half price too. A combination of both systems would be great, but that's why Anet changed it. But, why on earth would you unlock every single damn skill? If you're rich, go for it, but from what i know, the average player doesn't REALLY go for unlocking everything...if you have completed everything else, then, yeah, you'd prolly have a lot of money.

Wasn't this game supposed to not be about who grinded the most? The current system seems to contradict that.

People with several classes unlocked had to pay 2plat+ per skill / cap signet... they've increased the cost, but capped it quite low. The new system is MUCH cheaper.

1k cap per skill versus some 2.5k? Try using some skill points, you'll see the huge benefit the new system is. The average player would have to purchase a good deal of skills, if you're not at least getting your primary class finished or even mostly done... then that's just lazy ><

Judgemental as that statement is... the minor costs incurred getting the few skills beyond those unlocked by the quests (going by your definition of average player) are more than made up by the random drops from going through those missions / chests.

Why don't you stop telling people how to play because you are a cheap skate? Who says the majority of people are doing it purely for the unlock? Having access to additional secondaries without creating a new character is making full use of one of the biggest advantages PvE characters have over PvP characters. That advantage is worthless without skills to go with it.

All i suggest is that Anet, would you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSS SSSEEE PRETTY PLEASE WITH SUGAR ON TOP CHANGE IT BACK? Come on, it's just ridiculous, i don't have the most money, actually so far i've spent about 5-6k purely on skills since this update, for 2 characters. Neither of them have gotten past the desert. I spent around that much beforehand on about 10-20 chars, mind you, i unlocked a damn lotta skills. Just change it back Anet, don't balance it with faction, cos faction is so easy to earn.
Pretty pwease?

Vote and support for this change instead:

The first new skill that you purchase, will cost 1 skill point, 50 gold

The second skill that you purchase, will cost 1 skill point, and an increment of 10 gold

Signet of Captures will cost in terms of gold will be halved.

Hence, the old system.

But cap it at 1,000 gold.
Then everyone is happy.

/signed for this faboulous idea to make everyone happy

Even just what it was before with a 1k cap.

Otherwise, that system above or 10gp instead of 50gp start

defintely /signed.

Money is so easy to come by in this game 1k is nothing more than 10 minutes fun. Quite whinning and go read the threads on where the best farm spots are. Hell I bought most of my skills for my W/Mo at the Hell camp where the skills merchant sells them all. Probably spent at least 75k there. And I still have oodles in the bank. Game needs something to spend plat on, there's certainly not much else "worth spending it on" meaning FOW armor isn't worth the vendor it's sold from. Cause it ain't no better than 1500gp armor.

yeah, but this was HoD at lvl 15...and you have oodles of cash though. I don't, and i don't think you are expected to farm for a few skills, and now to be forge armour cos i spent money on skills. Yeah, you should farm for FoW and 15k armour, but not for skills.

Just hover your mouse over the number on hero-screen and you'll see how many skillpoints you have used, and how many that char has gained in total.

Don't you think they capped it at 1k per skill for a reason? Maybe it's cause people farm more or have more money now that they made each skill cost 1k? And if they made it 1k.. dont you think Anet expects you to have 1k for the skill or do you think they just do it to annoy everyone? Maybe they decided it was too easy to get skills... that the players should work a little harder to earn a skill
And, c'mon, how hard is it to get 1k? Even if you dont "farm" as such but just play the game by doing quests.. not that hard, is it?

I'm not even gonna comment on the 10 sigils per guildhall thing..

Well you think wrong then. Cause you certainly have to work for skill money just like you work for money for everything else. You want skills you earn them. Some you can earn from quests for free. Many you'll just have to pay the price if you want to roll the dice. (smile)
